Reconciliation and Decolonization

Howe Sound Women’s Center Society (the “HSWC”) seeks a qualified consultant to evaluate and implement steps for our staff and board of directors to follow to incorporate the spirit of reconciliation.

We want our services and programs to support and apply an Indigenous world view that enhances cultural safety for all clients, in particular those who identify as Indigenous.

HSWC was formed in 1981 as a grassroots organization dedicated to the prevention of violence against and support for women, children and youth impacted by violence or abuse.

Over the years, we have developed and continue to work towards expanding resources to serve the needs of those impacted by gender-based violence in the Sea to Sky Corridor including Pemberton, Whistler, Squamish and the N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Lil’wat, Skatin, Xa’xtsa, and Squamish Nations.  It is the only service provider in the Sea to Sky Corridor that offers this unique set of helping services to women, trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit folks and their children.

Our services are currently offered to more than 40,000 people who are disbursed over approximately 200 kilometers throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor.

HSWC seeks a consultant with extensive experience to review HSWC’s existing spaces, programs, and services and to educate the staff, volunteers and board of directors and recommend changes that enhances cultural safety for Indigenous program participants and ensures cultural safety for Indigenous clients and Indigenous survivors of gender-based violence.

We invite you to review the below Request for Proposals and submit a response by 4pm on February 27th, 2023.
